PMI - 50 Years of Shifting Gears – Past, Present and Beyond

In celebration of Project Management Institute’s 50-year birthday, we’re going to be taking a tour in time to help illustrate just how far the project management industry has come.  We will be digging up interesting artifacts and events from 1969 and reflect on how they relate in today’s business environment.  We will also learn more about what inspired the origin of the Project Management Institute and cover some of the organization’s historical moments.

Then we will shift gears and focus on PMI’s vision for the future and how the profession of project management is evolving.

Tanya Boyd | SYCON International | Project Management Administrator

Tanya Boyd is a native of Lafayette who recently returned to her country roots to be closer to family after 25+ years in Baton Rouge. She currently works as a Project Management Administrator for SYCON International, an engineering consulting firm that specializes in automation and integration.

She has always possessed an ingrained passion for storytelling and in college she pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in English and Journalism from Louisiana State University. She credits this educational experience with helping to hone her attention to detail that has served her well in her diverse work history.

Her professional experience includes working with cross-functional teams to implement project management and quality assurance in the industries of healthcare, auditing and disaster recovery. In 2014, Tanya became a member of the Baton Rouge PMI Chapter.  That membership has translated to a journey of both personal and professional growth.  She attained her PMP Certification in October 2014 and served as the Vice President of Professional Development for two years. She continues to provide support to both the Baton Rouge Chapter and Lafayette venue.

As an active advocate for continual improvement, she challenges herself and others to think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to keep evolving and solving everyday issues.  Never one to sit idle for too long, she enjoys mixing things up by engaging in activities such as kickboxing, karaoke, nature photography, organizing theme parties and spearheading wellness initiatives.
